That is the exact reason why all industrial forestry equipment have a cage with wire mesh surrounding the operator. There are cages made for Ag tractors. Maybe someone has a link.

Pete, I have seen garden style tractors with either a plow or blower used here in PA. The tractor is small enough to be transported in the back of the pickup truck. Ramps used for loading and unloading. I have also seen a small Bobcat skidsteer trailered behind a pickup truck. The Bobcat is used to clear walks and pile snow.

I have a Curtis 7' power angle plow set up with quick tatch brackets for the FEL on a JD4700. The springs on the mold board prevent damage and I can pile the snow up as high as the loader will reach. It works great, but it is a little expensive. Those among us who are skilled welders have converted used plow setups from pickup trucks.

Berryman, I understand the tractor will basically look the same. The major improvements are the HST and the controls.

I understand that Deere has an agreement with Landpride to produce implements which will comply with ASAE standards. Therefore, the mounting of the Frontier 3PH attachments will be uniform and interchangeable by category. Colors will be JD Green with Tan & Black trim.

I use the suitcase style front bumper weights which are easy to put on and take off. However, the front end is still a little light with the MX6 cutter on a JD4700. I will be adding a liquid ballast, (anti-freeze & water), into the front tires. This adds weight and lowers the CG.

What is the relationship of the Breakout Force at the pivot pins of 3,863 lb/ft for the 460 loader mean? <br>The Breakout Force at the bucket cutting edge would be of more value. I assume it is less. How can this value be calculated based on the published data?<br>The lift capacity is specified as 2,325 lbs at the pivot pin. Does this value include the weight of a standard bucket?<br>Inquiring minds would like to know.<br>Tony<br>

IT'S FIXED!!! Swash plate bearing failure contaminated the HST. New HST installed under warranty. A split 4700 is not a pretty sight.

The new 4000 ten series are supposed to incorporate up to 75 product improvements. The new tractors are scheduled to be available starting this fall. I would wait.
There is a big JD meeting going on now in New Mexico.

I have used my 48 backhoe on the heavier 4700 without any problems so far.
The piston shaft which bent on my #7 backhoe was replaced by the dealer under warranty. The shaft was soft.
You should insist that your shaft be covered under warranty. Call customer service at 1-800-537-8233, then press 1, pause, then press 4.
The pressure relief valve setting should be checked to make sure it is within the specified limits. Please keep us advised.

Doug, Get the XTRA ARMOR KIT and the Mid Mount Plate, if you are working in brush or woods. There are pics of my 4700 with the KIT installed at the JD4000 series club.

Dan,

I change from the 48BH to the 3PT hitch often on my 4700. The plates do not have to be removed. The bottom links must be installed first. The link must be at an angle which allows the spherical bearing to slip on to the pin. Be patient, once you find the correct angle, the links go on fairly easy. Also, the hitch pins are a challenge. Not much room for the ring. I hope this helps.

I have the ATI 72 inch toothbar on my JD4700 HD bucket. The replacable tooth caps, (a must). I have been excavating a hill with alot of shale, (very hard on the teeth). The cost last year was $425.00.

What were the symptoms prior to the differential lock failing? I am experiencing a lot of vibration when backing up a grade on my 4700 HST.

I have a JD4700 with 17.5L28 R4 tires. The combination of Rim and Hub positions allows for 7 tread widths from 51" to 75". The operator's manual recommends using the wide position whenever possible. Look for this capability when you evaluate your new tractor.

Jeff,
Some people have all the luck and all the fun. We got about 8+ inches of heavy wet snow. The power and weight of the 4700/BH/Curtis 7' plow combo was tested, but I was able to remove the snow in one pass with no problems. I find the Curtis plow /loader package is great to push and then lift the snow into a tall pile. The "Weather experts" are predicting more snow for this weekend. BTW the quicktach set up is the only way to go!

The 4600or 4700 with a Brush Brute is ideal to clear your land. I recommend a counter weight box or 48 Backhoe and chains on all fours, (saves a lot of tire wear). You should be able to rip the small trees out including the roots with no problem. You may need a scarifer to remove the rest of the roots. Murph is the BB expert. Good Luck.
